Authorities stated they were contacted by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Police then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important political figure stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
