The star has given the complete sum of his £25,000 award prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to save the UK's independent live music spots.

Fender was presented with the award on 16 October as his latest record his work was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, collecting over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous local spots across Britain.

These funds supported locations that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues received financial assistance in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in big venues helps the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to give his award prize money to good deeds.

Back when Pulp won the prize in 1996 for their record the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker declared that the act would donate their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite shared her award between a few organizations, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," the artist shared with a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the local youth club that supported their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year the group contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the disease.

"The victory was ample," remarked singer Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had rescued a couple of small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "stakes" in the venues.
